    OBC Lighting Problem

    Hi,

I just upgraded my OBC to the 13 button unit. It functions but there is no illumination. I have plenty of bulbs and light bars so I am certain the problem is not bulbs. Any ideas on wiring mistakes that can cause the lights in the OBC to not function?

    Thanks,

    Ron

non wiring issues I can think of, but, it's your headlight dimmer switch set too low ?

    tested the light bars ?

sometimes connectors on obc plug it's somewhat loose, giggle it just a little bit and see if it helps.

I re-checked the OBC plug, and checked the dimmer as well. No go. No illumination of the light bar or the button backlight. I know the backlight is good as it works in the old OBC.

      Thanks,

        you're welcome Ron,

how about correct wire harness, pre Sept 88? cars use 10 plug units and post 9/88 have simpler 7 plug sets., not that i ever heard anyone having this sorts of issues due to it.

in case there's something internally wrong with your obc, then I have about 40 of them laying around and both harness variations too.

Fixed it. There were two white connectors, one male, one female that go who knows where. I read somewhere that they should be connected to form a loop in the harness. Well, I guess they shouldn't. Lights are working now.

From your post I guess I have the older harness, I wish I had known there were two versions. I would have not run into trouble if I'd had fewer connector to puzzle over! Maybe I will swap it with the post 88 version.

          Thanks,

          Ron

I am having a similar issue I bought a new light board but, I dont have any illumination, the pins inside the OBC look fine and but and the buttons light up fine but I have no backlight?

How many pins were those white connectors?

The white connectors that caused my problem were three pin, one female and one male. When I left them unconnected my problem went away. You can check your light bar with a volt/ohm meter. You could have a bad one even if it is "new" I had a bad one that was "new".

              Thanks,

              Ron
