Changing interior color - who's done it?

I'm not sure if I'm loving the tan....Sure at least it's sport seats.

But I'm just woundering if down the road if I want to chage over everything how much a pain the carpet and headliner is

Does the carpet look around the pack of the center console? Can you cut and wrap it around? Does the slit make the interior louder?

(I assume everthing else just pops out right?)

Im not sure what your trying to ask but in my opinion the tan looks the best on e30 interiors. The black seems old no matter what you do, the creases and stuff stand out more, and the cardnal red never looks good. my 2 centages

Changing the carpet isn't too bad. Although I've heard it's easier to just cut it when it's up under the dash. The console just unscrews and comes right out. To change the headliner you need to remove all of the glass in the car; so that can be a chore.

If I were you I'd try to find a really nice cardinal interior (which are very rare). I think red on red would look sweet.

Good condition cardinal is like an oxymoron.

There is an iX in my town for sale with a nice cardinal interior!

I also saw a white eS last year in NH with a very nice cardinal interior! Nicest e30 interior I have ever seen!

The only hard part is where the carpet goes under the main portion of the dash, it gets pinned in by the climat control system.

You can either remove the dash (lots of work) or cut around it and let the excess area be covered up by the cetner console.

Carpet is easy well atleast for me.

Removing everything that is attached to it, center console, seats etc..

Then once you have it half way free pop off the gas pedal and bend it back slowly to avoid snapping it off. Yes you will have to cut around the heater core and i think that will be the only hard part wich isnt that hard its self.

Theres more to it but im to tired to go on about it.

basically its not that hard and im sure you can do it in an hour.

I myself have swapped over a full intieror wasnt all that hard and i think the dash was the hardest.

In all three of the e30's I've owned the first thing I did was completly gut the interior and clean everything. IF is not hard to do at all, the carpet comes out easist if you cut it out from around the heater box Other than that the Hardest part is geeting the dorr sills back on and Getting the vent sliders hooked back up.
Here is a picture of my 88 325is, I changed the Interior from Red/tan to Black I dyed the carpet from Tan to black.

How well did the dye hold up on the carpet and what dye did you go with? Did it start to come off after some time?

I also dyed the rear seat, real panels, and rear deck. Everything but the carpet in high wear spots has held up great. Right under the gas, clutch, and brake pedal and also on the footrest the dye has worn away. I used some spray on Vinyl and leather dye.

I am planing on replacing my carpet, the current one is kinda stained. I am just dreading the idea of pulling everything out.

I know someone that has tan interior and black headliner with tinted windows. It looks really nice to me. With tinted windows, it gets the cabin dark enough to the point where tan doesn't seem so outstanding. I've really grown accustomed to tan. When I switch out the interior in my 88, I'll just go for whatever is available. ;)

It's made By Dupli color and is called vinly/leather Color. I picked it up at the local autoparts store. The carpet required a lot of coats, but wasn't too bad to do.
