    upholstery

hey! does anyone know what the difference is (if there even is one) between auto upholstery fabric versus the kind of upholstery fabric you can find at a local fabric store, such as joann's (other than generally being less flowery...) ?
i've asked around and so far all i've got is "it's OEM material..." so does that mean the only difference is the jacked up price they're trying to charge me just for a few yards? :-? or is there some kind of spec that's required of automotive materials??

also, do upholstery shops generally use like a dacron and/or scrim-back polyfoam? and does anyone know where to find upholstery seat padding either online or locally?

Largest diff. is UV protection, and of course you'll want something that is very durable

A 1/2" foam backing will do the job, but most anything will work fine. Try and find a warehouse type fabric shop, as they will carry the largest variety.
