I think we have actually discovered, from another thread, that e30's came with black carpet in North or South Africa, at least thats what one of our members said.

          Humm...did a search for about a week NC325iC.

Still have not found anything...I guess everyone dyes there carpet black. I am just worried about how well that stuff works. I have also seen custom molded to model things online for about $140 but I dont know how well that will work. Plus you would have to buy your own sound deadning and stuff...I dont know. I trashed the carpet pulling it out so dying that one is not an option.

Going to have to talk to those Africans.

I bought some black carpet for my 88 for $140 and it came with the underlayment. It is not nearly as plush as the stock carpet, but then I wanted to drop 50 lbs from the car anyway :) Don't be fooled by the 'molded' tag on the cheaper carpet sets, all that means is they were pressed in a tub similar to our pan shape and that's it. You will have to get out the carpet knife to get all the corners correct and everything.

Just be sure if you get this type of carpet to leave extra on the sides to go under the sill plates.

I didn't really care about the cosmetics too much since I'm not restoring the car, but rather turning it into a track day toy/daily driver...so a bit of floor pan showing here and there is OK with me.

Best bet is to go the vinyl dye route. Get yourself a clean carpet, and 4 cans of VHT black vinyl dye, and go to town:

Doing this in the summer with a light grey carpet I got. Want it to match the rest of the car...

I ended up getting pre-molded black from Pellican. I wish the pile was a bit, well, different, it's not QUITE OEM but it's seemingly good quality and the price was reasonable.

By different, do you mean thin? Can you clarify? I can’t decide whether to dye mine, or go with a replacement [OEM or PP].
