    Dash Idea: Recover?

The OEM dash is prone to cracking, no two ways about it. What about buying a dash and having it covered, say in something like a nice, flat black vinyl. OEM fit, albeit, perhaps a little more snug around the edges, but the newer vinyl is less likely to crack or deteriorate, and would be easy to maintain.

I have wondered about this too... I've already done a dash replacement and if my new (to me) dash cracks I'm going to go nuts.

fyi, there are those dashcap covers that oddly enough, look decent (well, less crappy than you would think) and...

BMW makes a NEW version of our dashboards. Its like $600 but its made of a different material and looks off the hook good (but it's still black)

I have had the Coverlay dash cover that Bav Auto sells on an e30 and e24. It is a great piece that most people don't notice at all. It fits right in with the interior. You trim it down to fit and use silicone adhesive to attach. I would definitely buy it again. Soooo easy.

The idea of covering the dash is way more interesting though and would be a project I would be willing to do. Maybe a leather dash would be cool.

Sorry it's not a closer pic, I don't own the car anymore and couldn't get a better one.

i'm thinking about doing the coverlay... quick question

my dash currently has cracks in it... would you recommend shaving them down or something?

I just ran out and took some pictures of my dash cover. I had to do mine over again after the first one I bought ended up having a defect in it above the middle vents. They covered it with a warranty and don't even think I had to send the old one back?
I didn't worry about shaving down any of the cracks as it doesn't fit THAT tight.

The color differences aren't as drastic as the camera's flash make them seem. I'm very happy with mine.
