    Sport seat material question

Are the back panels of leather sport seats covered in leather? Or is it just a leather-look material? I'm going to be refreshing my seats pretty soon (they're black leather), and I'm wondering if I can just spray-dye the back panels. I want to use the same stuff I used on my overhead sunvisor panel and the center of my M-Tech II wheel, it's SEM ColorCoat, since it's got an awesome finish.

If they are leather, could I still use it? The can doesn't say anything about NOT using it on leather, and no one sits in my back seats, so they would never get touched by feet or something.

Do you mean the big panel that is held on with a couple screws, then slides up? My stock M3 seats weren't leather back there, just the vinyl-composite laid over the fiber-board, or high density paperboard, whatever the stuff is that makes the structural form.

It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.

Yeah, the big panel on the back. So it isn't leather, then?

Mine weren't. 11/87 build. And I had mine apart to re-dye the leather, so I spent a decent amount of time eyeballing those things before swapping to the SRD's.

Awesome. That makes my job a lot easier. Thanks!

In my '93 ic they are leather. I didn't think so but the upholstery shop showed me that indeed, they are.

Also, when I purchased my replacement leather interior from World Upholstery, it came with replacement leather for the rear of the front seats.

The shop didn't install the new leather because they said it was originally bonded in a mold using heat and pressure.

I've had very good results when applying dye to other interior panels so I don't think these would be any different.

just remember, leather is a lot more porous (sp?) than vinyl, it might soak a bit.
