When You Shift Into Reverse, Does It Hit Your Console?

When You Shift Into Reverse, Does It Hit Your Console?

Not sure if I nee to try loosening and shifting my center console to the left, or, what other options I have. It’s done this since purchase, and as I drive it more and more, I want to find a solution. TIA

Yes, it sucks and my new (few months old) shift boot is already wearing out on the top left side....

You guys need to rebuild your shift linkage. All new bushings and parts will make it feel like new.

Shift carrier & shifter bushings are trashed. Replace them.

Those with swaps, I bet you're running an M20 tranny on the M50... thats just the nature of the shitty angle of those 2 items combined. Put in an M50 matched tranny and it will go away.

I rebuilt my shifter but it still feels like a shifter from a 1940 ford 1ton truck

You can replace the shifter ball cup from the top, that's about it. You have to do it from the underside to get it all. It's not hard.

It's also alot easier to get at everything with the driveshaft removed and the tranny dropped down alittle.

Interesting, I suppplied a shop with every shifter part (other than the console and the rod) recommended by bma and it's still just as bad as it was .

Does yours have an older sheet metal console ?

Mine used to when my trans mounts looked like oily jelly beans.

a few years back I did an e36 lever with new cup bushing as well as new shims/clips/etc for the selector rod (the understeer kit). It was ok, but still a bit of play front to back, and sloppy left to right.

i just picked up a new selector joint, dowel, buffer, bitch clip, and carrier bushings as well as rear carrer mount. hopefully this does the trick.
