    The Dash Thread

I picked up a new to me dash (thanks again Dustin) some time ago, when I take out my old cracked one, I was obviously going to clean up the new one before it goes in. Should I just soak the damn thing in a protectant of some sort to ensure it to not dry out or something?

Add your own dash protection theories and what not.

just dont use armorall. My dash cracked terribly after i started using it. I use Nano-protectant now. And it works alot better IMO. Heres when i put the new one in, Ive got more reference pics if anyone is interested. Since this is the Dash thread :P

Get yourself a DashMat, the only way to prevent is to completely cover it.

          DO NOT WANT

But seriously, I mean driving 5 minutes in Arizona you could think 99% of the water in your body evaporates. I'm looking for other measures as well.

Edit - I have a carpet dash mat right now, it's ugly, but yeah it blocks the sun's rays.

Possesed by Satan much? I used to live in Palm Springs, Ca. Home of the 125* summer afternoon. Now about 25-35 deg. cooler area now. Driving is not when your dash gets affected, long term sitting in constant direct UV rays does, drive like normal, but cover it when you park.

No, I've seen too many College Humor videos. :)

              You're right.

The only thing I use on my vinyl is vinylex made by lexol who makes some of the best leather protectant on the market today. It works great and will help your dash last forever with periodic treatments. Like said above stay away from armoral its pure crap. Dash mats look like shit in my opinion.

so what did you end up doing/using? i did a dash swap on my last e30, and swore off ever doing one again... was SUCH a pain in the ass. but now i just picked up another southern e30 with a cracked dash :(

looks like i'll be doing another one sometime in the near future

It wasnt difficult at all to do the swap, I swapped one in with a small crack inside the passenger side recessed area. Its a million times nicer than what I had and I am very glad that I did the swap. So far its a tough call between what its like to look out a new windshield and looking at a newish dashboard for the best thing that I have done to my car
