how the hell do you do it? i have the top linkage apart-but i can't see the bottom well enough to figure out how to pull it out. this is the last thing i need to pull the carpet...can anyone explain? thanks!

it "plugs" into the floor. Gently pull it out

Thanks for the response-I ended up sliding the carpet over the pedal-it actually worked!
