For those of you who have done E30 rebuilds

What did you do about your interior carpet? Buy a new one from BMW? Any good aftermarket sources? Did you clean your old one?

My carpet was destroyed by the PO, so I found a decent oem carpet for my cabrio in a salvage yard and used the 'Rug Doctor' from Lowes. It cleaned up very well. I am going to re-dye/paint it tan with duplicolor to finish it out.

stockinteriors.com didn't have any good write ups. There is autoupholsterykits.com they sell a cut and sewn kit in german velour or pile.

All of the aftermarket carpets that I've seen have no padding underneath. I guess they expect you to harvest the foam from your existing carpet or something.

Your best bet is to buy a mint carpet from someone for around $100-150, or look around your local boneyards for carpets that'll clean up well, like twothrees said.

Here's a thread on a aftermarket carpet and it looks like one guy did order it for his car and put it in.
