Recaro SRD Seat Install w/ Pics

I guess this follows along with the other thread about brackets...

So I put my newly acquired SRD in the other weekend. Previous owner had height adjustable vaders installed, god that thing was heavy. I used the low version of Wedge Engineering's bracket along with tabbed non height adjustable sliders and it's pretty low. In order to get lower you would need some side mounts or a custom bracket that puts it on the floor.

The rear of the vader is as low as it can go but the top is raised up in order for me to get some ghetto lean to clear my head. So this obviously isn't the best comparison, but if I lowered the front of the seat any more I would hit my head.

Total height of bracket and slider.

    Dirty!

    Wedge bracket installed.

So the tabs on the slider are too long and hit the floor, not allowing me to get them in the lowest setting. Once it warms up a little I will be doing some grinding to gain that extra .5"

Installed!! I will be installing a stock passenger seat so look for a pair of vaders for sale soon.

Overall I love the seat. I can actually sit up straight without my head rubbing. I'm 6'4 by the way with a pretty long torso. Estimating I think I gained 4-6" from the vaders. Right now I have around 2" or so. With helmet on I may need to lean back a little for comfort. The only downside is that the bolsters make it a little harder to get my big ass in and out of the car. I imagine fixed-back seats would be much worse.

Now just one question for you guys. The previous owner drilled holes in the floor to mount the vaders (See pic 7 & 8 ). What's the best way of plugging those up. I don't have access to a welder. I was thinking just some silicone would do. Any suggestions?

I am jealous. My favorite seat ever. I would go to the hardware store and look for a plug int he size you need. Or maybe a marine supply store.

That's a pretty good idea. Never thought of that . It is a nice seat, fits me almost like a glove (leg bolsters are a little tight) and holds me way better than the vaders. I did not like those things one bit!

I might be interested in those vaders. Let me know when you decide to sell them, as I'm local.

The seats in my gf's e36 are shit.

Great install...i have the same SRD's in my M3 but with Recaro brackets that attach to the stock sliders...they are very trick, but i can tell i'm still 1" higher than I should be. I was thinking about getting these height adjustable recaro sliders with the low wedge brackets, but i had heard that the wedge brackets do not center the seat correctly...can you speak to this? Did you need a longer bolt to bolt the bracket to the floorboard?

Center as in side to side, correct? I haven't noticed it being off center but I will specifically look for that tonight. I did not need a longer bolt but I had to go buy two for the rear mount because the vaders were mounted using different holes. The bolts I bought were just a tad shorter than the stock ones and worked perfectly. Also I'm pretty sure that these are fine thread, I can make sure though.

My Recaro (SRD / SE) seats are worth every penny IMO. So nice, comfortable, great for cold/hot weather, hold me in tight in the corners, and sexy.

However, you do have the height adjustable sliders (changing holes that is bolted to the bracket changes height). You will need to cut that tab down to get lower, like you mentioned

Speedware Motorsports hardware is even lower and a flat slider (without any height adjustable tabs, and drilled holes covered up on the slider) will give a little more headroom.

Really? I thought the height adjustable sliders let you adjust the seat height while you're in it. I may be thinking of a completely different thing though....

I would be interested in seeing a picture of the Speedware bracket. It seems as it would be hard to bolt the slider to the bracket if it is much lower.

The big bar that the tabs were connected to effectively blocked off the method to flat attach it, so a pal had to saw it through and drill it. I believe I needed to buy the hardware, for that as well as for the seatbelt bolt which wasn't as simple as the Wedge. Also tricky to install as there is so little clearance.

So you ended up using the tabbed sliders but just cut the tabs off? It looks like it's almost an inch shorter than the Wedge bracket. Do you have both in your car?

Looks like it'd a a littler harder than the Wedge due to the clearance. The tabbed brackets made installation easy as pie (once I realized the reason the holes weren't lining up was because the tabs were too long!)

Side by side Wedge (P) and Speedware (D) although seats are a lot different.

I ordered the slider from a cheap distributor so I'm not sure if I couldn't have gotten a non-tabbed, but saving $40 and having a friend help me out worked for me.

Nice install, I may try to modify my stock sliders because I'm also 6'4" and don't fit at all with a helmet on. Seats look great, I may have to look into a pair in the future.

I'm about the same height and had to modify brackets to fit knockoff srd's in my car. Even with this My helmet still touched the headliner over bumps.

Your best bet is to eliminate the sliders, or do a side mount setup.

Haha! If only I had the money to burn. I'm looking for a stock, preferably sport, for the passenger. I don't sit there...
