    Shifter cover

Has anyone ever seen that aluminum cover where the shifter is? Looks weird yet kind of cool in a awkward way.

Piece of aluminum and a milling machine. Ain't gonna be cheap.
You may want to ask a Ferrari owner what they think of their gated shifters. Most agree that they suck.

Gated shifters like that exist because some (mainly italian) gearboxes tend to bind if you dont switch gears absolutley perfect each time. They look cool but the first time you drive one you will hate it. I had the pleasure of driving a Detomaso pantera a few years back. The car was fantastic the shifter was terrible.

Think about how you shift from 2nd to 3rd gear. It is not a natural, fluid movement to push up, stop, push to the right, stop and push up again. You move in a single diagonal motion. Its faster and more comfortable.

A piece of masonite, a router and some silver spray paint would give the desired pain in the ass effect you are looking for.
