To be honest, just use some of the heavy duty glue that has been suggested in this thread and i'm sure you wont have any problems. When i'm installing my new interior, i'll be redoing the rear shelf in the same material i used for the pillars (since i have a good amount left) and will be using the more heavy duty glue suggested.

    Dave,
Make sure all your suede is UV treated or it will fade on you. As far as glue goes just use a good Landau top contact cement and it will outlast your car. It is the glue they use to put the vinyl tops onto metal roofs, and you know how how hot that can get. I would also suggest using it for your door inserts as well.

I used that stuff from Jo ann on my car and covered the smae things plus the rear speaker shelf, maybe a year ago, and it was faded so bad after like 6 months. It ended up looking grey/green. But I live in Miami and have sun on it all the time.

bimma360...thinking about doing something similar on my 635. The PO had something screwed into the trim panel and I want to cover it. Also thinking of doing the dash as mine is cracked and new ones top $600.

Any updates? Has the area around the check panel fallen anymore?

No update since the last time. Currently the car is getting a dinan turbo motor and drivetrain swapped into it, along with a bunch of suspension and subframe stuff... so it hasnt been around for me to redo the overhead panel. Its also getting an auto sunroof conversion so either way i would have to re-upholster it. The pillars are still holding up however. I might stick with the vinyl overhead panel though... and just heep the pillars suede. The visors are a pain to do and require sowing... i was going to use my mom's sowing skills but since then she has started chemotherapy so i think that will be on hold for a while. I'm glad to see you still have interest in this... if i remember correctly you were the skeptical one... haha.

Well it looks like i'm going to have another go at it, as the suede on the overhead panel is now coming unglued as the days get hotter. The pillers are all still fine though. However, i'll be converting to an electric sunroof so i guess i would have had to do it again anyways.

So... glue with the glue gun approach, or 3m adhesive?

I've worked with the 3m adhesive stuff. its super sticky its impossible to get off once it gets on your hands even with a lot of soap and water. maybe goo gone would take it off..

Do it Luke and then report on your progress. :) I am in aggreeance on the ugliness of the hung headliner. Was thinking of doing some sort of rigid foam headliner, fabric wrapped of course. Fiberglass would be much harder, but also more durable. Plus I hate how the entry lights are in those plastic fu%king holders that always break. Would much rather have them in the headliner.

I think the "hung" headliner is ugly as hell, personally.
luke i'm 6'2 and it won't work; well I don't think it will anyway because the sunroof tub hangs centered about an inch below the actual roof.
You could mount to it, but it would be a bitch molding around the gaping area's all around the tub.

Haha ohh man i wish i knew all that about the glue and the gun ahead of time. Oh well, looks like something to redo later on when the glue thats on there now fails.
