Making my own gauges, beware of the cupholder!

I know I have some tacky style but it all good. I am just testing what I can do and how I really want my gauges to look. This is my first attempt, I kind of like it but it has a long way to go. I have to thank Sean for giving me the template (which Jordan may have made). If it weren't for him I would have never been able to do this.

I need to figure out on what type of paper I should print this on and how I could properly cut it.

The way you made each increment the same size is incredible.

Thank Sean for that. He is the man who gave me the template. I am not done yet. Finding a good font is really hard and I don't know if I am digging the Alpina purple cluster tone.

Looking like you have a good base to start with just keep the bondo away from this project and you should do just fine...

          Bondo FTW

The cupholder will be something I'll never forget, it works well though until I get the e46 center console.

This looks like a simple but yet hard project. How are you going to get the light to shine through the gauge faces that you are makeing now?

To tell you the truth, I don't know.

You probably need to take an old gauge face to a vinyl lettering sign store and and see if they have or can get some material that is similar to the originals. That way light can shine through.

Hell they might even be able to take your design and enter it into their system and print and cut them out for you. Just a thought

or just have them print the design right on the old ones

Light doesn't shine thru the guage faces - it shines up from below. At least that's my understanding.

I should set the record straight. I didn't make these either. I believe these were made by Jordan, a couple years ago. And, someone sent them to me. I've just had them sitting in a folder for years.

You are correct now that I think about it. The light shines from around the faces and not through them.

My friend has a vynil machine but it does not do multi color. I guess I will go to a store to see whats up. Does anywho know name brand stores that would do this type of work? Like Kinkos or something?

I just went out and looked to see how it lit up. It looks like both ways, some comes in from behind and some comes from the bottom of the cluster.
