    Dash and interior cleaning

*DISCLAIMER* - I know there was a thread already on what to use to PROTECT your dash. I already bought protectant products. Thank you.

What I want to know is what I should use to CLEAN my dash, consoles, and door panels, before applying my protectant to them. I have full black vinyl interior, and it along with the dashboard and consoles are all extremely dirty and grimy.

What has worked best for you guys?

the stuff you bought should clean it off... but if u want, you can always hit it with a damp rag before hand

Turtle Wax makes some wipes that are for cleaning. I find that they work very well. I use them before I apply Armor All. How grimey are we talking here? You'd probably want to wipe them down with a wet rag before doing anything.

Either that or diuted super clean. I'd say 16:1 should do it.

Ivory soap and warm water, with a medium bristle brush. Then protect.

I use a wet (but ringed out) chamois. It picks up most of the dirt and dust.

If u keep the interior cleaning, you shouldnt need any soap, maybe once a year to do a thorough cleaning.
If there are stains that do not come off with just water, diluted soap (all-purpose-cleaner) water and a rag (with a rough texture like a hand towel) would do the job.

To finish it off, its nice to have a dry microfiber towel.

And Q-tips become very handy in those tough to reach spots.

Yes. dont forget those! I use quite a bit of them, but I never remember to get them until I'm in the middle of cleaning.

instead of using Q-tips for my hard to reach dirt..... I just took the damn interior all out and made it 100% easier. No dirty around the window switches, between the shifter and ebrake cosoles, between the carpet and consol, ect.

The UV rays will break down the polymers in the plastic and vinyl and cause cracks over time. All good plastic and vinyl protectants have UV blockers in them.

The dash and door cards shouldn't crack regardless... however if your car is left in the blazing sun for 20 years maybe it will... I've never had a dash crack on any of the 20+ vehicles I've had and I never use anything. I hate the glossy shine, it looks greasy.

that just my opinion, if you all feel it necessary go ahead, I'd rather use my time and money on other things.

Vinylex, by the people who make Lexol, is both a CLEANER and a PROTECTANT

You also live in BC. Pretty moderate weather.

yeah, i usually give the dash a runover with a damp chamois, and then protect it with 303 Aerospace Protectant.
