    Preventing Cabrio Rear Seat Split?

The top center 4 seams of my '92 cabrio rear seat are about to blow, despite liberal applications of leather conditioner. My '89 cabrio seams are long gone with huge leather splits/foam vomiting, victim of leather shrinkage.

So my question is, can I release the metal rings that hold the leather to the structure of the seat, let the leather shrink up and release the tension, then re-attach the metal rings with the leather in the new, relaxed position? It seems like that would prevent any further stress on the seams.

Has anyone tried this? Any other ideas?

There is not much slack in factory covers so I do not think your idea will work that well.
If your leather center sections are not too dry you can take your top covers off and have an upholstery shop sew new center sections, then you can reinstall the cover.
