Vert seats - cloth, leather, or leatherette?

I live in the sunny South, and I have a vert project that needs seat covers. I've talked to Kevin about his covers, but I'm on the fence as far as material selection.

I like leather, and I like the easy, no-care aspect of leatherette, and i also like the grippy, breathable characteristics of cloth.

    Any recommendations?

Leather is really a PITA to take care of, unless its a garage queen dont get leather in a cabrio.

Cloth looks uber faded under the sun, not that it will be faded but it will look faded. If you are okay with that, go with cloth for low heat and probably the lightest weight. It also has a tendency to make the car look cheaper if its "all cloth".

Leatherette has the best economy to look, but tend to be sticky esp when under the beating sun.

My advice is go with two tone or at least two texture, with fabric in the center and vinyl on the side, so it will maintain the luxurious look while being the most versatile as a car the you would "normally drive"

make sure when you pick leatherette it is top of the line stuff with cloth backing. I have better experience with cloth backing for seats rather than the vinyl stuff. With cloth backing it seem more leather like andmore solid of a fabric, straight vinyl seem to feel plasticish under heat.

What colors did we talk about? I would say nay on the leather, it is as hot there as it is in Atlanta. I do a great deal of Micro and soft touch vinyl.

The car is a stripper 318 with an M20/260 transplant. The OEM material is blue - vinyl seatbacks and sides with cloth inserts. I liked the pics of the navy leatherette seats you sent me.

I sent you a couple of emails about it. I'll start on the seats as soon as I get the bushings in and springs/shocks/wheels/tires on.

In Las Vegas, leather seats in a ragtop are hotter than hell. If I weren't so damn cheap, I'd get mine re-upholstered in a cream & tan cloth. My butt would thank me for it.

              Good luck!
