    Window Switches burning my fingers

    Hi,

This is kind of weird. I replaced both my window switches with brand new original E30 illuminted switches I purchased from a thread on this site.

First thing we noticed when we put them in is how bright they were compared to the old original ones. Problem is they're also very hot, to the point that it's uncomfortable to use them. I've had passengers pull their hand back in surprise at how hot they are, as if they weren't hesitant enough riding in a 20 year old BMW.

Now I'm thinking the brightness and heat are both because there's too much current running through them. Did BMW had different switch models during the E30's life and maybe I have the wrong ones?

I added lighted switches to my '85, and mine get hot, too - it's a light bulb. It makes a difference as to how long the car has been running/on, obviously. I know there are different tab / connection configurations on the backside of the switches, but doubt if there is an electrical difference. Maybe someone knows the definitive answer!

you can pull the bulbs out of them if you cant stand it or go E36 for them.
