Also keep in mind we do custom upholstery so each seat will eventually be full restored. We are in the middle of restoring the red ls's. As for those we are doing a diamond stitch insert and the slight bunching on the bolster was caused from me carrying them up the steps (carried them by the bolster) and i just didnt smooth it back out before i took the pics.

You want to remove the insert and you will see two metal clips holding the bars of the headrest in. Pull those out and the headrest will be freedComment

a2coupe2a: thanks! but how do i remove the insert? i tried prying into it, but it seems like there's a cloth tab that's looped around a metal slot, and i don't see any way of removing it without cutting the tab.Comment

You pretty much want to lift up on the piece between the headrest and the insert. You will see the metal dowel sitting in the clips at the top of the insert. Push the dowel towards the back of the seat and up a little and it should come out of the clips. If it dosnt use a small flathead to slightly bend the clips upwards to allow more room for the dowel to come out.
Once you have the dowel completely freed you should be able to fold the insert down. It may be held in with hog rings in the center. You can clip them or just slightly bend the insert so it allows enough room to access the headrest clips but not soo much that you have to remove the rings.
If any of this dosnt make sense now it should once you start digging into it.Comment
