Two questions- Cardinal Vert Interiors? Best place to buy seat dye?

Okay, more important one first. I'm looking to bring some life back into the seats of my e28. They are Cardinal, with some wear spots and cracks. I've seen people use dyes to seriously improve both black and tan interiors, but I'm worried about doing it with the red interior for two reasons.

First, I don't want it to end up looking blotchy or generally worse than as it is now, which is just well worn on the bolsters of the front seats.

Secondly, I don't want the seats to end up being too dark. I'm afraid that the dyes may cause that with a red interior. The door panels and pulls, along with the backs of the seats are perfect, so I don't want the seats to end up being a shade darker than those areas. I suppose its worth trying, and if I screw it up I can just source some new front seats, but they are more often found as comforts, and I will not give up my wonderfully comfortable sport seats.

Anyone ever dye a Cardinal interior? Anyone have a link to someone who did? What brand do you suggest?

The other question is about Cardinal interiors in Convertible e30s. Are they pretty rare? I've only seen one. And do they have red or black carpeting?
I have a mint tan interior in my vert, but have been thinking about trading it for either Cardinal, or a nice Black interior with red carpeting/door panels or pulls. Could be an interesting look, maybe not all that awful.

    Thanks,
    James

Well I may order some dye and make this a project this weekend. Hopefully it won't be too cold, but I suppose I could make some room in the garage.

Anyone know how common Cardinal vert interiors are? I want one bad, but realized I'd need to score the convertible bootlid as well.

Cardinal seats with the door cards and boot lid swapped to black. My original carpet was gray.

I just ordered a leather dye kit from Leatherique to redo the cardinal red interior in my 88 vert. From everything that I read (and I read lot), Leatherique has some of the best products out there. I will post before and after pictures when I finish.
