    I.T.R. shift knob drilled and taped with the two forks cut off the top of the shift rod cut off and threaded.

    If you you dont want the gear pattern on there you fill it and paint it.

      Nothing out there compares to the factory ego knob for me. Get new one, hammer it down firmly, and you're in business. If you are ripping that off, you need to calm the fuck down while going between gears.

      My gripe? The factory shift knobs are too short. If you're buying a knob for performance, you want something that is tall enough to be close to the wheel so you don't have to move your hand very far to and from the wheel - increasing the amount of time you keep your hands where they should be. All of the knobs today are just stubs - not ideal for truly going fast.

                I have the same momo knob everyone has. It's ok, it's wearing out fast, I've had it about a year maybe, and the leather is showing wear, and the threads are starting to come loose. I'd prefer a bit more weight to it too.

                I don't know how you guys have problems with the screws unless you're missing pieces. With the right size rubber adapter inside it, mine doesn't even need screws to stay in place, but I have them tightened on anyway

                        electrical tape around the shift arm and a few good wacks to get the old OE e30 knob on. it dont come off unless you yank on 'er

                          The side-shifting thing is pretty interesting. I used to do that before I installed the armrest. :(

                            I really like Whalen knobs. I just can not spend that much on a shift knob.

                            Maybe a ZHP, 135i stock knob or BMW performance knob at a good price.

                              yes, the ZHP knob clicks into place, no BMW orig. knob has cheap ass aftermarket style setscrews.-- not even VW uses set screw crap.

                                The Getrag in my E30 isn't nearly as slick as the tranny that was in my Z31 and I've still never missed a gear in it. It still has the sloppy worn out shifter too.
