Gas door works along side with the locking system on your doors. Gas door lock is failing on your car.

Go to your rear lock at the trunk and while unlocking and locking the car through there pull on the gas door slightly. This happened to me once.

You can access the gas door lock by pulling back the trunk lining on the passenger side.
