    How to clean headliner

The headliner in my E30 looks atrocious. The previous owner was a smoker and thus the headliner is brown and disgusting. I tried using a spray cleaner and a paper towel but all it seemed to do was spread the grime around. Does anyone have any methods that work? Any help is appreciated; thanks!

Mr.Clean magic eraser. Seriously, I have heard that these things will do wonders on our headliners. Let me know how it works if you try it?

I got a couple of 'em in my pantry, so I'll give 'em a shot, but I don't know if they're gonna accomplish the job...

3rd. They work great on your interior vinyl as well.

Ehh, it sorta just scrubbed the dirt around rather than removing it and I chewed through 2 of 'em in 10mins of scrubbing. It'd probably take a whole box for me to get the whole headliner clean, but it's the only thing that's worked even remotely so far.

Is a steam cleaner an option?

Hint: Stop eating KFC in your car then rubbing your greasy mitts on the headliner?

I just cleaned mine with a bug sprayer full of purple power cleaner diluted 8:1 with hot water. Spread out a big cotton drop cloth over the whole interior. Sprayed the headliner, waited, scrubbed with a soft brush, did that again, dried with a microfiber towel, then rinsed with plain hot water from the bug sprayer, and dried again with a clean towel. Let dry for 48 hours with the windows down. This worked awesome. Note that I live in Las Vegas with 8 percent humidity and stuff dries out really fast. If you live in a wetter climate, the amount of water involved might cause you problems between the headliner and the roof sheet metal. Ditto for the electrical stuff up in there.
