    Heater valve/Heater core

I am replacing my heater core. There's a great thread on here with all the info...I have everything out and pretty easy so far.

How do you know when the heater valve needs to be replaced? Mine has some coolant residue on the base (if you look at it installed properly) and I don't know if thats a bad thing...Ive seen them kind of expensive ($150 on realOEM)...I'm kind of torn with it.

I got all new pipes and o-rings from the dealer...Heater valve too?

    Suggestions on the heater valve??

It's an electronic valve, apply voltage and see if it closes/opens. Does it looked cracked/leaking?

If it was me and there were any signs of leaking I'd just replace it, but I am beyond anal.

I didn't really do a picture-by-picture analysis of the swap but here are some pictures that will hopefully help the next member to do this:

            Firewall opening with coolant lines.

Place a pan under the car...about 1/2 litre of coolant will spill.

Plastic garbage bag to catch the coolant...about 1/2 litre come out:

            old vs new heater core:

            Long tube: 64111370932
            Short tube: 64111370931

It really is a simple job, just takes a little time. Front seat removal is necessary if you want to walk straight for the rest of the day. :D
