    Headlights on all the time?

Ok so problem is that my headlights and cluster lights are on even if the switch is fully depressed (off) if I pull the switch to the first position
(interior lighting) all the lights go off then if I pull it in last position all the
lights come back on as they are supposed to on this position.

I already tried to swap the switch with another one I had witch I know
is in working condition and the problem was worst like all lights on at off
position and off at the two other position. I also tried other relays with
    no success.

Anyone know what else can i check?

don't you have to have driving lights on all the time?

dont most canadian model cars come with fulltime running lights?

Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 requires DRLs on all new vehicles made or imported after January 1, 1990.

The lights are not on the position "mode" they are the same intensity
than if I turn on the lights. they are supposed to be lit but not as bright
as if I turn them on (ie supposed to have a similar intensity to a city light
            in a euro projector)

Btw It's my second 318is and the last one wasn't doing this.

that last comment didnt make any sense at all. i must not be understanding what you are saying.

              Light switch
Position 0: all the way in: head lights on, all parking lights on, interior lights on
Position 1: 1 click: all Parking lights on
Position 2: full out: head lights on, all parking lights on, interior lights on

              correct?

PO could have done some custom wiring so they didnt have to play with a yucky switch thing.

When tried to swap the switch for a good one
                here's what happenned:

                Light switch
Position 0: all the way in: head lights on, all parking lights on, interior lights on
Position 1: 1 click: All lights off
Position 2: full out: All lights off

I don't really know what to check now except wiring but I"ll wait
till my car is back on its wheel it's been on jack stand for a week
and half now and it's my DD

i would bet theres some funky custom/hackjob wiring in there somewhere.
