    Light Upgrade Project.

What I have to work with is a 91' 318i stocker.
The Head lights are pretty basic crappy sylvania sealed beams, and i want to upgrade to something nicer. Maybe Xenons, or something that would drastically improve visibilty and looks. What are some affordable reccomendations?
The car did not come with foglights-that is something I want to add.
do these (below) look worthwhile? I just really want some cheap oem style foglights to fit into the cooling ducts, nothing too flashy.

    All input wanted.

    Cheers

    Rob

Get a set of used fog lights off of here. Much better than the ones you linked, those look really bad. Just keep and eye out for some.

As far as headlights go, the best bang for your buck will probably be an h4/h1 set up. Or you can get a set of US ellipsoids pretty cheap and throw in an HID kit from DDM on sale for about 30 bucks now.

        ok.

Smiley headlights are lights that have an ellipsoidal lense or projector lense. They have a cut in the reflector that curves upward. This is what gives them the nickname "smiley" headlights. Great light output and great looks. They come with an H1 light bulb setup but loose thoe and grab some H1 HIDs and youll never need foglights.

Then you have the US spec ellipsoid headlights. They are just on solid reflector with no cut outs like the euro spec headlights. They still have nice light output but at this point, anything has better light output than sealed beams. These lights cam with a 9006 bulb. Once again, add some HIDs and you will love the result. FYI, these headlights came stock in all e30s made from late model 1987 through to late model 1989. In 1990 they switched back to sealed beams. They are regularly for sale on here usually in the 75-125 dollar range.

        hope this helps.

yeah well i can agree that sealed beams suck-the ones are mine are those ultra-crappy kragen ones that the PO bought a few years ago after someone smashed them in.

Thing about the HID's are, I don't want to spend TOO much, like a couple hundred dollars on a kit, as I am also in the process of slappin' on some euro lights on my Peugeot...

and i also love how foglights look...

                  1. Any product that has $38 shipping on a $26 part is crap.

                  2. Any product that is attempting to fool you is crap.

HID requires a ballast, those "Rally" lights do not have a ballast, so they are riding the HID fad, ergo, they are crap.

                  Thus spake Luke.
