Swapping in late-model rear deck/3rd brake light

Can this swap be done? I much prefer the more low profile 3rd brake light from the late-model cars, and I happen to have a rear deck and brake light assembly.

If you car has the Seat belt reals mounted on the Rear deck then yes(not down in the trunk). You may be lacking the two studs in the body to screw down the light but the deck will hold it put just fine. I put the newer style in my 88 325is with no problems.

I did this, My old rear deck was blue anc coverd with....something....ewww... So i put my nice tan late modle one in, if i recal right i had to drill 2 hols and put 2 screws in to hold the brake light, but it wasnt a problem. Just make sure u line up the light correctly first. Its not bad though.
