Honestly gonna a be a few days before I would have a chance to switch them out. But they are really a lot better. I've very happy with them. I got them from here:

Very well packaged and quick shipping.

Wanna switch one side out real fast and show the difference? My gf's getting me a pair as a late christmas gift.

could you post the link of the exact ones you got? Those honestly look as good as ellips and they have euro looking cutoffs. With some Osram xenon bulbs they'd be beautiful...for like a hundred bucks total brand new.

New H4's. Sorry no before pics. I forgot. Pretty good improvement I must say. I have cheap yellow fog lights than run H1 bulbs that I basically had to use before with the sealed beams to see the road. Now, I can't even tell when they're on. You can't really tell but for some reason the left side is brighter than the right. It's brighter and whiter while the other is more "yellowish". The fog lights are not on in this pic. They are the same bulb, but just cheap bulbs that came with it so can't complain too much. Guess the next thing is to order some Osrams.

You should be pretty happy with the Hella H4 replacements. They have higher quality coatings for the reflector dishes than cheap sealed beam units, so they should give solid output for a long time.

napa sold me low beams at $7 a pop. I was pretty surprised, and it made a big difference in output.

How old are your sealed beams? After a few years of heat & oxidation, the reflective coating in them tarnishes & reduces output. NEW sealed beams are actually decent lights...they just look ugly.

The other thing about getting really good housings, like the Hellas or Cibies, is you can rock overwattage bulbs without damaging anything. I would only run overwattage bulbs in your high beams though, as you do NOT want to blind people. At least with overwatt highs you can turn them off when there is traffic.

And do not forget high gauge headlight harnesses. A 12g harness will make a big difference.

Ok, I understand what you're saying. Classic garage seems like a good deal. So basically, this: http://dtmfiberwerkz.com/access/euro...hts-p-473.html plus HID or the drop in H4 kit from Classic garage. Was just trying to decide if I want to go HID down the road. I'm not doing it for looks. I drive the back way to work now (dark country roads) and need something brighter.

And I'm good? I appreciate all constructive comments but I understand this might not be the "greatest" (ie most expensive) option for the lighting purist crowd. I also already have the pigtails from an E34 that I assume should work.
You can't run HID bulbs in the H4 housings. They will blind everyone in front of you. The only correct way to run HIDs is in a projector housing (such as the E30 ellipsoid ones). Just run some quality Halogen bulbs in the H4 housings and all will be well. The Euro-spec Osram Silverstar bulbs are a good choice as they have NO coatings on them for maximum light output. The US ones do have a slight bluish coating, IIRC. I know that they don't look as awesome as HIDs, but HIDs in a reflector dish housing (like the Hella H4 ones) will just piss off everyone else on the road.

Maybe. I would avoid no-name brands like the plague though. Hella makes a quality product, and unless you can find some new-ish Cibie units, I wouldn't run a "bargain" set of no-name ones.
