    Paint: $14.50
    Time: Free

I'm not sure your priority's are wrong at all. It's a cheap hobby type thing to do in your free time. Hell, I buy tail lights to refinish them and re-sell. I've got several rust spots I need to fix but that costs way more than I can spend at the moment.
    Thanks :)

The paint was actually only $8. I'm having a lot of fun with this car, and i'm swapping the rear trim with some from a friends race car that's in perfect condition, for free!

To make sure the rust doesn't creep around anywhere you don't want to fiddle with, POR-15 it. I actually use a lot of Rustoleum Rust Converter to halt the rust my little '91 318is is riddled with. The rear apron on the driver's side is a straight up hole and right behind the driver's side door the body is seperating from the frame (Sonofabitch PO). Until I can afford to have the car out of comission and paint, it's been stopped. I still check on it every 2 weeks to make sure and while not ideal, it's what I can do ATM.
      Need a part? PM me.

Thanks for the advice! I'll probably go get some of that tomorrow if I can find it. The body panels hit the hardest are the passenger front fender, and driver's side door. Both are being replaced with rust free parts from California, and the rear bumper is hopefully going to be fixed up by my uncle that does body work for a living.

Thanks! They actually got a very nice "OEM" look/texture on the finish, do you think wet/sand and polishing would really help the appearance?

yea, depending on where you sprayed this, dust speckles and particles got in there,
since the paint is translucent you can see them, a nice polish will take those lights up
a notch or two. its one of those differences you don't really see until you've done it or
experience. but do what makes you happee

oh and i hate you for posting this, i was so sure of going all red with my tail lights,
seeing what the nightshade can do, i might just smoke them instead.

you did two coats you say? because if i smoke mine, id want a lighter saturation.

I was actually going to go with all reds too, until I saw this paint for $8 :)
I did two coats, but it all depends on how heavy you spray it. I would say that I did medium/heavy coats, but a guy on bimmerfest did 6 coats and his is a little darker than mine. Wait 15-20 minutes between coats. I also stood them up against a wall in my basement to paint them, I think the paint was easier to spray like that..

Go for it! Easy mod and you can lightly tint it or paint certain parts as you please!

The key here is to wet sand, couple of coats of clear, very fine wet sand, then polish, and wax.
