    sealed beam to projector w/HID?

Before I sold my parts car I pulled the projector lights out because I figured I'd want them in the future. I bought a DDM HID kit for it (already got the bulb installed into the back of the lights, and the harness is ready to go), but now my new 91 318is has the sealed beam lights. Apparently I suck at life and I'm having trouble finding a write up on how to do this...

    Any help is appreciated!

I know a lot of people hate the yellow high beams, but I tinted these myself using some yellow tint I bought off ebay about 3 years ago, turned out decent I think... I might remove the tint and smoke them, haven't decided yet...

I think you just have to rewire the sealed beam wires to a projector connector. I'm not sure

Lights look good by the way

thanks! I'll start by saying, I turn mentally retarded anytime people bring up wiring/electronics.. So would that involve me cutting/splicing wires from the existing lighting wires to match the new projectors? I'm guessing there is no "plug n play" method?

Go to the lighting sub-foum in appearance and cosmetic forum. All will be revealed there.

If you "turn mentally retarded anytime people bring up wiring/electronics" Then find someone who isn't before you hurt yourself or your car.

That's what I hope to do once I find the write up, I'll go search around there, thanks.

Ryan, is that you over on 'tech?

The DDM kits that I did in my car were 100% plug and play from the 9006 bulbs I had in my projectors, but I did convert from sealed beams long before that.

The complex thing to do is compare diagrams and see which wires do what. The easy thing to do is (assuming you know the basics) connect the brown wires together and test power with a testlight until you find your lowbeam wires and connect the red wire to that.

            Closing SOON!

yeah I've got this name on both the tech and bimmerfest.

Thanks for the info, so if I convert from sealed to ellipsoids it should then be plug and play for the DDM kit?

                no it won't be PnP.
Every time you flash your high beams power will be interrupted to the lows. you have to do a relay mod or use diodes.

See the problem is when power is interrupted to the lows(with HID's) it takes a sec for the ballast to charge. If you don't do some sort of mod and you flash your highs at night you wont have any headlights for a few seconds.
There are plenty write-ups on the relay trick. I prefer to use diodes, just my 2cents

I went through the same thing and it is a trick with the relay but i accidently fried my fuse box trying to figure it out. So i just changed it to one from a car that came with ellipsoids but that is a long and frustrateing way to do it....

Should be nothing but a couple of diodes under the dash to keep your lows on while flashing the highs.
