Turn Signal > Bump Highbeams on

When the headlights are on (low beam) and I hit a bump the high beams come on...and get this...the only way to turn the high beams off is to turn on the left turn signal.

In anticipation of swapping out the turn signal..I bought one off Ebay..any guide on changing out the turn/signal/high beam stalk?. Think this will solve the problem?.

bentley explained it pretty good for me. but if you dont have one:

    disconnect battery
remove the lower kick panel (drivers side)
remove the steering wheel (pop out bmw badge in middle, will use a 20/21mm socket IIRC). make sure to mark wheel where it sits. you'll need to put the key in to disengage the steering wheel lock and it should slide right off.
remove lower steering shaft cover, should be 4 screws, two half way down, two right under where you just took the steering wheel off.
signal stalk will be mounted with philips head screws, one on top side (look down steering wheel shaft on top side) and the other that holds the grounding wire.
once the screws are out the stalk should come off, grab the little relay/solenoid right under it and slide it off the steering column, follow the wire harness down to the base of the steering wheel shaft and the two plugs (one single wire, one large plug) will be slid on and connected. disconnect those and the whole thing should come off.

took me about an hour, and then another 30 mins realigning the wheel even though i had it marked. solved my problem where the highs would come on automatically going down the road. good luck.
