What is a good H4 bulb?

I just ordered the Hella low beam replacement's and I am looking for a good H4 bulb. Are there any around 4000K with close to 1000 lumen's? I read that a 9003 is just a DOT approved H4, is that true? What H4's are you guy's running?

I did search but did not get too much info on H4's as a lot of you guy's have moved up to HID.

I was running Osram H4 80/100 watt offroad blub's but in doing so i up the fuse's to 30 amp. I did that for over 8 years with no problem's. ;)

Good choice, you also really can't go wrong with Hella bulbs either. http://www.rallylights.com/SearchRes...x?CategoryID=6

Keep in mind higher wattage bulbs mean shorter bulb life.

Talked to Daniel Stern concerning H4 bulbs for the Hella housings.
He recomends the Osram 70/65w, just in case anyone has the same question.

He took the time to explain a lot of stuff. Appears to be a cool guy.

          Later.

On E30's, Did Daniel Stern recommend upgrading the high beam fuse and/or wiring? Stock fuse is 7.5A, if you switch to the H4 bulbs, you must upgrade to 10A, even with the 60/55W H4 since on high beam, both the high beam and the H4 will be on concurrently. I found this out the hard way. I love the idea of 70/65W Osram, but not sure if the fuse or more importantly, wiring is up to snub? Any advice is much appreciated.

D Stern's standing guidance is, rather than upgrading fuses, using higher Wattage bulbs, etc. is to get your hands on higher quality lamps.

If your lamp is minimally or marginally efficient with stock hardware, it will still only be as efficient with a different bulb- you're not changing the properties of the light itself- you're just straining your electrical system and you'll just have to upgrade electrical stuff, ie fuses, wires. The issues we face in limited lighting are not due, by and large, to poor bulb quality, they often are results of the lights themselves being poorly designed.

That being said- I don't know. I'm essentially parroting Daniel's website. It all stacks up pretty logically, so I made a switch from sealed, stock everything to Cibie CSR H1 Highs and Hella BiFocal H1 Lows. Have not received yet- so my actual experience is nil.

                  go here, read everything- http://www.danielsternlighting.com/home.html

then email him- he's a lighting wizard and a damn decent guy. Knows a hell of a lot about our cars.

EDIT- it's been over a week since i've ordered my lights, and not a peep from Daniel. i'm getting worried.
