Bulb Option for US Ellipsoids low beam

I've been reading this forum and other forums regarding upgrading the light output for my 1989 325iX. The car has US Ellipsoid low beams currently using the standard 9006 Sylvania bulbs. One option I have been considering is using a Halogen Infared Bulb by Phillips: http://www.rallylights.com/detail.aspx?ID=5028

Does anyone have any experience with these?

how about some HID 9006 kit? look like the Phillips bulb you will have to modify you stock housing.

I'm not asking for alternatives per se, I want to know if anyone has used the Phillips Halogen Infared Bulbs (HIR). They were previously made by Toshiba. They require a slight modification to the top tab to fit.
