    Crazy Lights

I recently replaced my sealed beams because I thought it would cure my lighting problem. Previously my lights only worked on the highbeam setting and not the lows. I replaced both headlight assemblies hoping to remedy this problem. This did not work so I checked the relays they were good. I dont know what to do next. Another related issue is that my indicators blink very fast compared to other e30's. Approximately twice as fast. This started happening when the lighting problem started as well. Anyone have any idea what else I can do?

maybe your signal relay is going?

Are you absolutely sure your low beam relay is good? if only the lows come on with the highs then your low beam relay would only be the problem. The lows are duel filament. Are your replacement lights new? if not, did you check to make sure the used set were working properly? check low beam fuses as well.

I tried some good relays and the lows would still only come on with the highs. I will try again with more relays. The new set was working properly. I might just try them on another e30 to make sure. As for the year my car is an 84.

First step would be to check for voltage at the headlight harness plug.
Typically yellow wire is low, white is high, and brown is ground. May be color stripes, you can ignore for this test.
I always work backwards when tracking an electrical problem, start at the light, then the fuse, relay, hi/lo beam selector.

REplace the nonworking bulb, or bent the bulb contacts to make better electrical connection. The blinker is supposed to double in speed when a bulb is out or connections are bad, it's the way tat the system notifies you of a problem.
Surprising how many cars have this problem, tho nowadays, it may be more use of cheap 'LED' replacement bulbs.

          Good luck!
