    Front bumper lights....

    Hi All,

Total Noob question. I've been thoroughly enjoying the '87 325iS I picked-up about a month ago, but am still sorting through a lot of little questions / issues I have.

One hopefully simple one: Should the lights in the front bumper act as more than turn signals? Mine don't go on in either position of the headlight switch, which seems a bit odd.

If they're supposed to be 'running lights', any suggestions on what to check for to get them working?

One other thing and it's probably more a cosmetic question than one regarding lighting, but what's the general consensus on clear front lights?

Any thoughts, suggestions, opinons or tips are welcome. Thanks!

Yes, they are running lights as well. Pull one out, you will see it is dual element.

Or, they are supposed to be at least.

If you get clear or smoked, use 2057A bulbs, but do not expect proper fitment. The base is too small so they will wiggle around and when you get the "fast blink" you get to get out of the car and smack your bumper.

Otherwise, get the proper Euro bulb, don't use a 1057.

Thanks for clearing this up. I'll check the bulbs this afternoon.

Is there any difference in clear lights? You can get ultra-cheap ones on Ebay, but you can also spend 3X and get them from Turner Motorsports. Anyone care to share their experiences with them?

...and do they actually fit or do they flop-around as previously noted?

Also got mine at Abrahams for my 86, good fit, no problems, looks nice... clear or smoked, I went with smoked, very happy.

Received my clear lens covers from Abraham Motorsports and really like they way the look. I now need to source amber bulbs and would like to avoid 2057A as I'd prefer them not flopping-around in the sockets.

Has anyone tried 1157As? They appear to be an exact replacement and you can get (amber) bulbs with a mirror coating that makes them almost disappear behind the lens. :)

Pelican sells them and so do a couple of eBay sellers. Does anyone have any experiences using them - good or bad??

Just a quick update for anyone interested - the 1157 Shadow bulbs sold on EBay work like a charm.

anyone know if the clear turn signals (not just the clear lens) from Abraham Motorsports have the 3 prong bulb socket? All the ones Ive been able to find so far on ebay/amazon that look similar have a 2 prong bulb socket, which would imply a single filament blub. I know that mine have the 3 prong connector for a dual filament bulb and I would have to imagine everyone elses do as well.

I cant figure out why all the aftermarket vendors are either insanely expensive for high quality parts or cheapish for extraordinarily horrible parts... why cant there be some sort of middle ground? Ebay/amazon parts for my other cars have fit/worked just fine, but for the BMW they are just horrible!
