How to: Make your sealed beams awesome!

I got my Hellas from a local shop and ordered the bulbs..maybe from ebay. Its been a while as the bulbs last a long time. I think I have the extream white but from the looks on the PIAA website, it looks like they have some newer bulbs.
FWIW (for what its worth), I have smilies on my cabrio and H4s on my coupe. Both have the _/ _/ pattern but the smilies do have a crisper line. For the price of the H4s with updated bulbs, definate plus and a huge difference from the candles you are using currently. Which ever lamp you get, i would recommend some laminX to protect your investment.Leave a comment:

Ahhh makes sence now (AFAIK)'
Any tips where to buy the Hella lamps? I am either getting elipsodes or H1 or H4 bulbs. Money is always a consideration.
Are these the bulbs you use?

Afaik - and for all I know
I have been using the hells h4 setup for 6+ years and they are an excellent upgrade especially with my PIAA extream white bulbs. They just pop in with no mods.Leave a comment:

Lumens comparison to the OEM
Cool if they are a drop in plug and play this would be awesome! By chance do you know the total lumens these bulbs output compared to the stock? I have never seen a side by side comparison.
I see that the bulb socket includes a Hella H1 55w bulb.
( BTW: What does "AFAIK" mean?)Leave a comment:

Think I found a Hella Bulb on Bavarian auto sport.

Will have to see if its a plug and play once I get my car back from the shop.Leave a comment:

Its there a low beam sealed lamp thats higher wattage then the factory bulb? Maybe something that is not as "yellow" something that has a silverstar look to it. Dont really want to buy ElipisodesLeave a comment:

Gotcha. I get it about the connectors. Post #5 seems easy enough. Must have skimmed over it.Leave a comment:

Refer to post #5. If you modify as you describe, it wouldn't work since the wiring terminals are different, and if it did, it would do the same thing as just using the switch and turning on the high beams.Leave a comment:

Since I only have a 1/4 brain (the other 40% has been killed by beer :D), I have to ask. Couldn't I just switch the wires from low beam to high beam and vise versa? So that the high beam circuit is now connected to the low beam (and versa vice)? My highs (sealed beams 87 325E) are noticebly brighter (duh) than my lows. So when I turn on my headlights on low, the highbeams are actually lit? I don't won't to fry anything and I'm too poor for ellipsoids.Leave a comment:

air cooled 6V bug
Been there, done that, replaced those dim lights quick!
I got a pair of Marchal Amplilux for my birthday, swapped in some 6 Volt bulbs and got a big surprise -- I could SEEEEEEE!
They stopped making those lights in 1974 or something, but they were a HUGE improvement over 7" sealed beams. Inside the light there were two reflectors and two bulbs, one for low, one for high. They had an H1 for low and an H3 for high.Leave a comment:
