Running Lights off with Headlights help

So, I've seen a thread somewhere about disabling running lights when headlights are on, but still have the turn signals function properly. I searched and I can't find it.

Or if someone knows how to do this :)

What? There's a way to have the lights not turn on, ever, but turn signals still will work. It has to do with a fuse or something...and blOcking off a contact. Or something. I shoulda saved it :(

they do if you only cut the marker wire. there are 3 wires going to the bulb socket. one is for the running lights, one is for the signals, and one is ground.

brown is ground. get a multimeter and turn on the running lights and see which wire has power. the other wont have power if the signals arent running

Easier than that-for most BMWs, running lights are grey (base) /white (stripe) and grey/yellow wires. Left is grey/yellow in front. After the Check Control relay, the back ones are grey/blue and grey/green. Turns are blue/red (left) and blue/black (right) both front and rear.

If you don't mind working with the harness, individual terminal leads can be removed from the connector with a tiny screwdriver, then taped off (for 'never' operation) or run off a switch near the headlights (for 'when I want' operation). I would hesitate to cut the wires, but that's me- you may not care.

I converted my E28-535i to relocate the front running lights from the turn/park lights to the headlight 'city light' (4W bulb inside low beam), freeing up the bumper lights for just turn signals, and use high output bulbs to make them show brighter than stock.

                Good luck!

thanks, im gonna have to see what i did, mines a little more complicated due to the fact i did a plastic bumper swap, so i had to splice wires in...actually, come to think of it, i may just be able to "unsplice" the one. I'll play with it. thanks for the info. but no one knows of the thread i seen about this?

Mo Brighta - How did you install city lights? I like the idea, but can't envision the install process. Did you drill a hole the lamp housing? More details please. :)

I bought the lights with these installed, did nothing other than connnect the wires to light. Actually, I removed the parking light lead from the harness connector to the front bumper (combined turn/park) lights, pulled it back through the sheath, re-routed it to the headlight low beams, and connected it to the city light lead from the headlight.

I have Cibie CSR lights in my car, but since these are NLA, I am now recommending the next best light, very similar in design, function and performance, from Hella. It's called BiFocus, and is also an H1 low beam, with an available city light feature. Again, it is installed by pushing the socket into the existing hole in the reflector, no drilling at all. The wire leads are in the cap, push-on spade connectors. All you need to do is connect it to the harness in the car, do a relay mod, and enjoy!

You might have seen it in a discussion on euro turn signal assemblies. They only come on when you activate your blinkers. I'm selling a set
