The fogs have never worked in my 91 318is. So i thought maybe to replace the relay, but i cant seem to find anybody who has one.
Any suggestions to where i could buy one?
Yeah, any parts yard with an E30. Or me, I have a ton of them. Gotta part number or color? I do not have an E30, just an E28. Probly the same part, though.
I assume you have tested or replaced fuses and bulbs, right? Do you know how to test a relay? Put +12 Volts to pin 86, 0 Volts/ground to pin 85, and test for continuity between 30 and 87.
Here's a test you can do before buying anything you might not need- check the fog relay bottom side for pin numbers and arrangement, then look for another with the same appearance, swap them out to test the fog lights, nothing else running (key on 'run', headlights on LOW, I think). Pins should be numbered, 30 (battery +12V/power in), 85 (coil ground), 86 (coil positive), and 87 (power out to fuses). May see an 86b or 87a, but they may not be used in the fogs circuit.
Also, if you are brave, you can jump from 30 to 87 in the fuse box, see if they light. This requires carefully examining the bottom of the relay and drawing a diagram of the slots in the fuse box for the two terminals '30' and '87', for sake of certainty, then shorting these two terminals (again, key and headlights on) with a piece of #14AWG wire or other suitable jumper.
good luck!
