I wanna paint my lights.. lamin x is far too ugly for my taste.

I would like to go with smoked or yellow lights if I can get the right shade. Lamin x looks too bright and like a highlighter for me. Does anyone have any suggestions on paint to use that would give me a pale yellow look without impeding on light output to much?

I think I might do my tails as well so I was thinking of using that "nightshade" paint from autozone. I guess I would need better tail bulbs for my early model to compensate. Does anything need to be changed to make high outputs work or can I just get bulbs and call it a day?

Or red tinted paint of the same make from autozone..decisions decisions. Someone help!

Put cross-hairs inside the housings, then put lamin-x on it.
    Highlighter's gone.

I forgot to mention I have sealed beams. Pretty sure I don't have that option unless I upgrade.

i think some mercedes came with yellow "fog lights" in the high beam area on the 70s/80s cars. and i believe they fit in the e30 sealed beam housings. do a little searching on that but just go to the junkyard and get some. it'll be a lot cheaper than new hellas and look a lot better than any diy you ever attempt.

I used nightshade on my taillights. Just be careful to prep the lights well and spray light coats so you don't totally black them out.

I've seen the mercedes lights. That's kinda the look I was thinking. Yellow looks cool in pictures but after seeing a shitload of lamin-xed cars at gutenfest I really dontwanna go that route anymore. I think ill try ordering thatpaint online and see how that goes. I have a feeling the mercededs lights will be a bitch to find.

Maybe I just don't "get" it. But sealed beams suck bad enough as it is. Why would you want to reduce the light output?

I was thinking I would switchthe low beams to high beam bulbs if they didn't work out. I don't think sealed beams are bad though. Work fine for me.

Yep, it's super easy to use. Here's mine. Sprayed till I got nice coverage, unfortunately makes it a bit to dark so you have to wet sand it down a bit then buff it out. Shouldn't need brighter bulbs if you tint to a reasonable level. It's the assclowns who spray them completely black and don't finish them is where you have issues with visibility.

After a good wet sand and buffed.

I don't get how lamin-x is too ugly though. My fogs look great.

Here is a shot of my sealed beams...laminx on left and nothing on right.

Sealed beams are terrible for night driving but then add on a tint of laminx (or anything), well you might as well put candles in from of your car. Without breaking the back, Hella H4s are excellent.

I have heard nightshade works good on the rears but I went with all reds using metalcast red.

The smoked laminex looks good. I was more reffering to the yellow. Its looks like lemon lime gatorade, almost green to me. Those tails look sexy as hell though. Are those painted red or black? I know the red comes out almost black if you lay it on too thick.
