    Indepenent fogs

    Hey guys/gals,

I want to have independent fogs on my 87 325is and after a lot of testing and trying, ive concluded (like many threads ive seen) that because early models have the lights wired with the fogs doing any mods to energize the fog light relay also turns the headlights on.

Before you ask, ive searched and searched and searched and every thread points me here

which no longer exists and the person who wrote it (http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/member.php?u=7532) hasnt been active since 2009

So im hoping someone with an early model has done it and can help.

    Thanks!

I simple just ran new wires and then ussed the park lights as the 12 switch for the new relay.
What you can do is find conectors and just pull the plug off the back of the OE dash switch.

Next time try using google because this tutorial is everywhere.

I'm about to do this on my E30. Stock wiring diagram is basically this:

Here is one way to do it

Basically you need to change so that the K8 fog light relay gets power at all times to pin 85, rather than just getting power when the key is in Run position. There are lots of ways to do this... In the US only 4 front lights can be on at the same time, so you should have a K9 relay to turn off the fogs if your highs and lows are both on.

My PO left some custom wiring (for instance the K9 relay was added in by the headlights instead of in the fusebox) so I have been chasing some gremlins, take a good look at your wiring to make sure which is which before you start cutting.

      GLW the mod!

          Driver,

Ive read through and done all those tutorials that just say "run a jumper from pin x to pin y" none of them work on my early model because of the difference in grounding, either the mod didnt work, or it turned on the lows and the fogs, or it kept the lows and the fogs on regardless of key or switch position.

The tutorial cabrio posted up is exactly what i was looking for, THANK YOU! As you can see the grounding issue is addressed for the early models.

My first e30 since my other car (73 charger) is getting restored, very different beasts when it comes to wiring...really everything for that matter lol

Will try it this week and post up!

Let me know how it goes. I found that write-up after I found this one ( http://www.r3vlimited.com/board/show...ent+fog+lights ) and did it to my fogs. So they work with this procedure, but stay on with key off. I just haven't had time to get to it.
