Schmiedmann sealed beam to ellipsoid conversion kit? Any Experience?

I tried one of these recently so I did not have to make a mess of cutting/splicing/tapping stock wiring and just plug-and-play these adapters, my Hella ellipsoid low beams work but city lights do not.

Looking closely at the connections, it is using the standard 3-prong sealed beam harness then breaks it off into the ellipsoid harness as well as a city light socket. The city light I thought did not get power from this harness and after plugging it all in, I was in fact correct.

Has anyone tried these with as advertised results? Am I missing anything?

What's your question exactly? I have a couple of these and they're for the low beams only. The city bulbs come on with the high beams for me.

I grabbed two high beam connectors from a wrecker and crimped some male adapters on the end so that the high beams would be plug and play as well.

My question is, better phrased, how do you get the city lights to work with these? I would like to have city lights on with parking lights on (ie: position 1 on the headlight switch) or on with lowbeams (position 2). I did not try high beams with the adapter harness plugged in.

With the adapters in, the low beam comes on but with no city light.

works fine been using them for years before Scheidmann. They come with some setups from Hella that way.

Well in their current configuration (with that harness) the city lights come on with the high beams. That's the only way it could be plug and play with the sealed beam configuration.

The sealed beams low beam lamps are dual filament so that the lows are always on - when you hit the highs, the second filament in the lows turns on and both lamps are illuminated. The ellipsoid low beams turn off when you switch the highs.

If you want the city bulbs to come on with the side markers then you will have to take that harness apart and wire them up to the side markers (you'd probably have to splice in additional wire to lengthen the harness). What I would do ideally is replace the North American spec side trim with euro spec trim which delete the side markers. Then wire the side markers to the city lights. I could care less about the city lights (they don't really serve any practical purpose for me other than sealing the hole for them in the ellipsoid lamps) though so I didn't bother. Mine come on with the highs using the harness you have pictured.

Thank you - yes, I have deleted my US spec trim and went euro bumpers/indicators. When I turn on my parking lights, nothing at the moment illuminates in the front of my car which is why I wanted to get the city lights powered.

Damn - kind of a waste of $35 but at the same time, 2 less wires I need to splice.
