Dash light removing orange caps 'mod'

Has anyone taken the little orange caps off of their dashboard lights? I am wondering if this would make it brighter, or just look like crap? Mine have been melted for some reason, so I am thinking it would make it much brighter

I have my dash apart and am re-soldering all the joints, just wondering if this is something anyone else has tried. I did try searching this up but can't find anything about it.

No thats not what i want, i hate white, looks ricey . But i"m thinking the orange plastic bits underneath the gauge holes will keep it orange, somewhat.

well for anyone who cares...this is an awesome little mod! really makes it brighter, alot.

Warning though: It takes a tiny bit of the red hue out. But Its still completely orange, just a little less. But barely even noticabley less.

I am definately glad I did this, I'd recomend it for anyone that wants brighter gauges for sure. simple and effective.

You realize that the exposure of the picture will drastically effect how bright his dash looks?

This is true, I just took some pics, but will have to wait till I have my other comp, cuz I cant upload them here. The pics are basically only any good to show you that theres still an orange hue to the light. Not just completely white as you'd expect. The pictures dont really show you how bright it is. But it is brighter in person

They likely melted because the incorrect bulbs were put in. Too high of wattage and you get melted plastic.

I just did the removal of the orange caps....nice look....not "white out" at all! Much brighter without being annoying! I even painted the needle gauges red....SWEET!

cool and all, but i fail to see the point. Part of the reason why our bimmers have red/orange interior lights is that it helps preserve your night vision(fairly moot point here, i'm just mentioning it), but more importantly you should only have your interior lighting turned up high enough that you can easily read the gauges - no more. Its just the ideal way to do it.

I thought this when I found mine melted. However the correct bulb was in there. I bought some orange tinted bulbs from checker and cant tell a difference.
