    Headlight Riddle?

Here is a brain twister. My headlights are doing something weird and I can't figure it out. The low beams come on and work fine, but when I turn on the high beams the left low beam shuts off while the right low beam stays on. I know that the lows are supposed to stay on all the time if the headlight switch is pulled on. I swapped in some different relays for both the highs and the lows and it didn't change the outcome.

I also have a suspected bad headlight switch as the cars running lights stay on with the key in both acc and on positions and will only turn off when the key is off. They will turn off when I pull the connector from the switch so I am trying to find another switch to see if that is really it or not.

I can not imagine that the headlight issue is also due to the bad switch, but I could be wrong in my assumption. I figure if the lows work properly why would the stalk set on high beam affect the function of the lows. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

If they are sealed beams then there is a slightly higher wattage high-beam filament in the lows which is ikely burned out. If you switch the sealed beams (put drivers headlight in place of passenger headlight etc) you will most likely see that the problem stays with the bad headlight that got moved to the other side. Spend $8 on a new sealed beam :D

Wow, I love this forum! Sagaris you nailed it. I swapped in another low beam and it worked properly. I had no idea the lows had two different filaments in them. I guess that is why they have three prongs instead of two like the highs. It never ceases to amaze me that I still do not know everything about these cars even with a bentley! Thanks for solving my problem with relative ease. You da man!
