    Independent Fogs w/ HID's

Anyone know how to get the independent fogs to work with HID's? It doesn't seem to work with the methods that are out there , i tryed the methods that are out there on my brothers car with regular fogs & works perfectly fine. I tried it on mine with HID's and does not work. Any information would be great.

    Thanks,

    Robert

First, if your car is pre 1990, your installation is simple and easy. If you are 1990 and after, like me, your installation is a bit more involved.

      Pre 1990:

Take out relay K4 in your fuse box, (the relay in the top right as you stand next to the drivers side fender,) remembering which way it goes, and then solder a wire to pins 87 and 30. This mod you should not even have to take out K8 relay at all. Place the relay back in the car and you should be done! Turn on the Parking lights and hit that fog button and voila! There are your fogs. Be careful not to leave the parking lights on without the key! Since the fogs will be on all the time with the parking lights, your battery would probably die.

      1990 and above:

Take out relay K8, which is your fog light relay and remember which way it goes in. Locate pins 85 and 30. They should be across from one another. Solder in a wire from pins 85 to 30, but when you solder it to 85, get the wire as close to the base of the pin as possible. DO NOT solder to pin 30 as of yet, you need to have a little play on that wire. Once you get this wire in, bend over pin 85 being careful to not rip out your newly installed wire. Cut pin 85 off just below that little tiny circle in the pin and check your soldered connection. Now, solder the wire to pin 30 and replace the relay, trimming as needed to make the little guy fit in his spot.

      TESTING:

      All Years:

***I am not responsible to any damages to your car during this mod. PM me if you need help with it, but it is after all your choice to do this to YOUR car. Mine works perfectly, but problems can come up.****

Turn your key to the ON position, turn your park lights on and then hit your fogs. If you have the cover off of your fuse box, clicking sounds should be heard inside the relays. This is normal, they are working the way they are supposed to be. If your fogs turn on, then this mod worked and you can enjoy the benefits of having no low beams with your fogs!

I'm going to try this, i didn't know there was a difference I've been trying the k8 relay when I have a 1989 . my brother has a 318i 1990 so maybe that's why it worked.

Going to try it on the k4 relay right now , i will let you know how it goes.

Thanks man , you too i love sedans !

No Problem! I didn't know that there was a difference between years for this mod. Guess there is.

Just did this to my 92 vert, works great with my HID's and hyper white LED city lights. Tho I only bent pin 85 towards the inside instead of cutting it off. Thanks for the info Robert, btw your car is so sexy saw it at dock you were parked two cars over behind mine. Where did you get your mud flaps? TIA
