    Crosshairs in non-smoked ellips/smileys?

Anyone do this? Very curious as to what it'd look like.

I'm going to assume you think smoked ellipsoids have the lenses themselves smoked. In actuality, the lenses are clear, but the metal plates inside that give them the "crosshair" look are painted black, so they reflect the black making the lens look smoked without diminishing light output.

I suppose you could put unpainted silver plates inside, but I'm not sure they would really be visible at all. Could look cool though.

Here is some more info/pics showing the plates:

Yeah I followed the DIY smoked headlight thread and saw the template, which is where I got the idea from. I too wasn't sure if they'd be visible or not. If I find a set of headlights I'm not using I think I'll give it a try and post back with my results.

He's asking what it would look like if you put crosshairs in your ellipsoids like in the link above, except instead of painting them black, leave them "metal" colored. That way the lights wouldn't be smoked, but you would still get the crosshairs look.

Unless you chrome plated the crosshairs, it would probably still darken the look of the lights a bit since the metal color would reflect out like how the black does.
