strange lighting problem

i have an 87 e30 and i was beating on it pretty hard yesterday when all of a sudden the rear passenger running light, license plate light, AND all of my dash lights went out. this all happened while i had the car sideways around a few turns. and ideas? i havent got into it yet but i was just looking for some input.

well if anyone ever runs into this problem it ended up being a fuse. if your standing on the driver side of the car looking at the fuse box, the row of fuses closest to you, seventh one in from the left. i find it odd that this fuse protects only one running light but both license plate lights, and the dash lights, but this was the problem.
