    Hi Beam/Low Beam Question

The other night, when switching from Low Beam to High Beam I discovered that when in HB, my LB lights would go off. In other words, in HB I don't have all 4 headlamps on. Is this normal for a 1990 E30? I recall my 1987 325 didn't do this but instead all 4 lights were on when in HB.

    Just curious...

what type of headlights do you have?

when i had sealed beams all 4 lights would be on when my high beams were on.

when i installed my euro smilies only the 2 center high beams are on when the high beams are on. not sure if this is the same for US ellipsoids or not.

with the euro smilies this link shows you what you need to do to make the high and low beams stay on when you are on the highs. (photo 5) http://www.rtsauto.com/e30-euro-smil...us-ellipsoids/

      That is normal.

Jump the relay to get high/lows on at the same time.

My fogs turn off, but my low beams stay on. I have US ellipsoids.

It's normal if you have ellipsoids. Sealed beams actually had a separate high beam filament in the low beam reflector so they actually technically have 4 high beams. I have 4 high beams too but it's a slightly different story. :p

              H4/H1?

I've got a very strange setup in my car that I absolutely love, 5-3/4" Hella Bi-Focus H1 lowbeam and Hella H1 highs. Love the lights. Performance wise it's vastly nicer than my old smileys (at least in the lowbeam department) but cosmetically they aren't as cool as they are non-projector housings. Just a standard flat face lens, look similiar to an H4
