installed HIDs and hella smileys - low beam out indicator but lights work fine

    question for you folks:

The car already had the US ellipsoids (which have different plugs than the sealed beams). I installed the Hella euro smileys and an H1 hid kit in the low beams. the lights work great but the car is reporting a low beam failure on the "check" monitor in the head liner

Any ideas what is wrong? or any way to fool the system? or how to remove that bulb - although that wont stop the CHECK light from flashing in the instrument cluster (the lights stops flashing after a little bit)

& the low beam isn't actually out? Idk. odd. Try replacing the low beam fuse. it's #14 or # 15. 7.5 fuse.

both low beam hids light up

if a fuse was bad dont you think the light(s) wouldnt work? I will check the fuses, thank you for the suggestion

the only thing wrong is the warning light - i would prefer to rectify the problem and not just pull that red bulb/indicator

It happens sometimes. Check your grounds and connections. That usually makes it go away.

Also, pressing the check button on the overhead panel makes the check light on the cluster go away.

I had a set of shitty HID's when I first got my smilies. I noticed that if I turned my lights on before I actually started the car, it would give a "LOW BEAM" indicator light. Maybe try starting your car first and then turning your lights on.

What brand of HID's do you have?

Good info on the button and the starting car - I only started the car to pull it out of the garage and I may have turned the lights on first...I will try turning them on after car is running (the normal way)

It can throw a low beam check light due to the decreased current draw from the HID kit. The ballasts I assume are wired directly to 12v. and it uses one OEM low plug to activate the relay harness? My Morimoto mini kit does this because it only taps one low beam plug for activating the harness. The other low beam plug remains unplugged which is why I think it throws the check light. Its annoying but I didn't want to spend money on this: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/pro...roducts_id=238

I have each side wired to get its power from each corresponding low beam harness on the car.

                so no plug left unattached

I have the same problem with my LED Lic plate lights. Sometimes it doesn't provide enough resistance or too much resistance so a fault code will pop up every time. Hope you find the gremlin man.
