    Kick Panel Wires, I'm lost?

I'm reassembling my car and have hit a snag in the driver's kick panel area. When I got the car these were all unhooked, likely when the PO removed speakers. As a result the dome lights havent really been working as they should. Weeding through the EDM I have figured out that BR/YL is the should be connected to the door sensor switch. I have other wires left over that I dont quite know what to do with. One is the door handle switch and the others i really have no idea. Here is a pic, would anyone be able to give me a direction on what goes where, please?

Purple/green wires look like door tweets. #2/3 look like speaker wires

That's all I can make out from the picture

I have already taped off what I think are the speakers. The kick speaker I think was YL/RD & YL/BR? The door tweets are GY/YL & GY/GN? Connector #2 in the pic is a male spade.

I'm 90% sure those r tweeter wires. Im still sure the brown wires r kick speaker. The gray might be door chime? I haven't been in that area of my car in a while

This is correct, unless you have premium sound. Blue on one side, yellow on the other, red strip is hot up front, black strips is hot in the back.

If you are having trouble finding the "other" tweeter wire, follow the harness down past the speaker opening, under the carpet. You will find it taped on the harness with a plug on the end.

NO! This is as wrong as possible.

All of the color codes are posted in several threads, as is the factory electrical diagrams.

Thanks Luke. None of the labeled wires should be speaker or chime related. Reading the EDM I think they all are interior light, light timer relay, and door handle switch wires. I just need to figure out what connects to where. #6 confuses me the most, I have no idea what plugged in there.

I found a searchable copy of the Troubleshooting Guide and dug thru it over lunch and made some progress. Here is where I am at:

                    1. BR/YL Connects to drivers door jam switch and goes to interior light timer control. (6330-1)
                    2. BR/VI Connects to #4 in the picture via connector C510 (male spade). I think this tells the interior light timer control module that any of the passenger doors have been opened. (6330-1)
                    3. BR/BU Still unsure of this, it may be an unused wire for the central locking (5126-1) or is related to the obc. (6581-4)
                    4. BR/VI See #2 above.
                    5. GN/VI Connects to the other pole on the drivers door jam switch and goes to the ignition key switch. I think this tells the dinger that the door is open so it can do its dinging thing when there is a key left in the ignition. (6131-0)
                    6. GN/VI & BR/BU Really have no idea what this is. I think its connector C143 found on 7000 5-6. Maybe its for the OBC (which I don't have).

Does this seem insane or am I on the right track? Thoughts? Comments? Ridicule?

All E30s have spare wires all over, as does virtually every car ever sold.

They use the same basic harness on all cars, then add, say, a Premium Sound harness or whatever, so that means there would then be leftover wires...I know, I know, but don't worry about it if everything works, just put it back together, with or without a few wire ties (hint hint) to tidy things up.

Well, hooked up everything as above and re-installed the original interior light relay. Each of the passenger doors trip the interior light as expected. The driver door doesn't, but I do hear the relay click. It's puzzling. Tomorrow I will retry with the cluster installed. I don't think that is in play here but I'm not sure so it's worth a shot.

Also, when turning a key in the trunk lock, the doors all lock and immediately unlock. These are the last two gremlins I need to work out before I can button up the interior.

See if you can swap out your lock control module. There is a feature on some E30s that automatically unlock the car in case of a collision and if the module is operated when unmounted, it can act as if it had been in a wreck.
