Switched city light as marker light ???

I am wiring in my European Smilies and I want to use the city light. This is no problem and I can make it work as I used the driving/marker light from the turn signal.

I only want the front lights to be used as turn signals.

What I do want to make happen as I dont like the look of the city light being on in combination with the headlights, is I want the city light to turn off when I pull my light switch from parking lights to headlights.

I know I will probably need some diodes and other bits, but can anyone walk me through this? I have tried a couple ways and not gotten any good results. I dont want it to cause a low beam out indicator on my check panel either.

    Thank you for any help!

Just run a switch and separate circuit to the city lights.

If I wanted to do that, I would have.

I don't want to run a separate switch. That's the lazy way. I know there is a simple way of canceling out the city light when the low beams are turned on. I did it years ago in a similar setup, I just cant recall the right way.

Anyone familiar with this canceling concept?

Any electrical wizards want to spend 45 seconds and school me on thought?

I tried to tap the posi lead from my low beam over to the negative of the marker light, with lack luster results as it backfeeds about half the time. Should I do this but with a 1 way diode?

Just try putting a one way diode on the posi wire coming from your low beams to the neg wire on the marker light. Worst thing it can do is pop a fuse or repeat itself by acting funny. lol

Take the ground wire off the marker light, and splice it to the low beam wire.

That's brilliant! All this time I have been wiring up a 30a relay to make this happen...

Another way would be to use a relay. Hook the city lights up to the N/C side and them hook the coil up to the headlights. When the headlights come on, they would turn on the relay, turning off the city lights.
